The goal of the blog is to improve financial literacy.
Let’s face it, adulting is hard. We don’t learn the very important life skill of financial literacy in schools, and millennials are lost. Millennial women and minorities even more so, as the financial industry has long been run both by and for the straight white man. I know people want to learn, and yet when they try to start it all seems overwhelming.
So many business books, investing seminars, and other “basic” financial advice … missed the basics. More and more I’ve come to find that there’s a huge knowledge gap between the people who know “a little” about money and people who know “nothing”. However, even more than knowing things is understanding how and why the current system operates the way it does.
For better or (more often) worse.
I want to empower you to understand your own financial information.
But more than that, I want my readers to be able to get financial advice and know if it’s in their own best interest or not. There is A LOT of bad financial advice out there. Some of it may be right for some people, but not for you.
Why should you listen to me?
My name is Jesse McKernan. I’ve spent the past 10 years learning everything I can about how our money systems work. I have a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from one of the top business schools in the world, the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. I am a certified public accountant (CPA) currently licensed in California. I make my living doing accounting for corporations. I’ve been through a Silicon Valley IPO, worked in SEC reporting, and now work for a tech startup. I can even tell you what all of those words mean.
I am qualified.
I’m not a reporter / actress / TV reality star trying to sell myself as a financial guru. Most importantly,
I’m here to help.
That being said, I’m not a professional financial advisor. Those looking for specific concrete advice on their financial situation might need to reach out to an even more qualified person.
